RIGA FC REACHES EUROPA LEAGUE QUALIFICATION PLAYOFF

In the second leg game of the 4th qualifying round of Europa League, FC Riga beats the Danish but its still not enough to reach the group stage.

Thursday night at Skonto Stadium Riga was a real football festival! In the game watched by more than 7,000 spectators, “Riga” beat the Danish club Copenghagen in a 1-0 match of the FC UEFA European League.

Due to a controversial penalty in Copenhagen and an unsuccessful compensation time, Riga had to play a two-goal deficit today (1: 3). In the first match, Riga had to defend themselves a lot and their attacks were rare, but today the game was in a very different mood – Riga did not give up so much control over the ball (40%: 60%) and forced Denmark champions to play defence for a long time, and had much more goal attempts (14: 5).

Riga could not become the first Latvian club in the decade to play in the Eurocup Group Tournament, but there is little consolation that tonight’s victory over the strongest Scandinavian club and this victory over Riga can undoubtedly be their highest score in Eurocup history.
