PAFOS FC: NEW HEAD OF FOOTBALL APPOINTED

Pafos, Cyprus, February 5th, 2021 – After a careful consideration, the Club have now appointed TSI Football Holding partner Michel Salgado to the position of Head of Football.

Michel Salgado is a legendary Spanish former footballer who played as a right back, known for his combative tackling and attacking play. He started his career in Spanish Celta, later playing 11 seasons for Real Madrid and having the honour leading the team as a captain. He appeared in over 250 matches for the team, fighting alongside players such as David Beckham, Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane and Ramos. He played under the management of such coaches as Vicente del Bosque and Fabio Capello. Salgado also played three seasons in English Premier League, with Blackburn Rovers.

Over his illustrious 18-year career, Salgado won a number of trophies, including 2 Champions League Winner titles, 4 Spanish Champion titles, as well as European U21 Champion title. He is 3 times Spanish Cup winner, one-time Intercontinental Cup winner and UEFA Supercup winner 01/02.Salgado, who played in 341 La Liga matches and scored seven goals, represented the Spain national team over eight years, collecting more than 50 caps and appearing in one World Cup and one European Championship. He was part of the nation’s squads at Euro 2000 and the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He also represented the Galician autonomous team, which he later coached alongside Deportivo de La Coruna’s Fran.

Since retiring from playing Salgado has stayed in football and completed his UEFA coaching badges whilst working as a director of football at Dubai Sports City where he oversaw all footballing programmes within their youth academy.

Michel was appointed Assistant Manager of the Egypt National Team in Sep 2018 and during his tenure he guided the team to 9 wins & 1 draw out of 12 games. He made a great turnaround, as the team previously had not won in their last 8 international fixtures prior to his arrival. He is currently the President of Fursan Hispania team in UAE, as well as the owner of an academy in the Middle East.
