Pafos, Cyprus, June 30th, 2021 – Pafos FC is delighted to announce signing Darko Milanic as our new Head Coach for a period of 2 years.
Milanic is a Slovenian professional football manager and former player. Milanic began his football career with NK Izola, later joining Partizan in 1986. During his time at Partizan, he won the Yugoslav First League and the Yugoslav Cup twice. After the 1992–93 season, Milanic moved to the Austrian side Sturm Graz, where he played for eight seasons and won eight trophies, including two Austrian Bundesliga titles, three Austrian Cups and three Austrian Supercups. As a player, Milanic also represented both Yugoslavia and Slovenia at international level. He also captained Slovenia at UEFA Euro 2000.
Darko’s coaching career saw him managing several football clubs, including Gorica, Maribor, Sturm Graz, Leeds United and Slovan Bratislava. Milanic won the Slovenian Prva Liga during his first year in Maribor, the next year Maribor won the Slovenian Cup. Milanic led Maribor to win the 1st Slovenian Division in total 6 times, Slovenian Cup 4 times and Slovenian Super Cup 2 times. Under his management, Maribor has twice entered the Group Stage of Europa League and once the Group Stage of Champions League. In January 2013, Milanic was selected as the Slovenian Manager of the Year for 2012 by winning the league, cup and supercup.
